Three-Day Training on Scientific Fish Rearing and Water Quality Management Successfully Conducted under TSP

        A three-day training programme on “Scientific Fish Rearing and Water Quality Management” was held from 6th to 8th November, 2024, under the TSP initiative titled "Promoting Sustainable Livelihoods through Community-Based Integrated Farming Systems for Tribal Farmers." The event took place in Sarikhusi Village, Ri-Bhoi District, Meghalaya, and was attended by 25 members of the Sarikhushi Multipurpose Cooperative Ltd., Nongpoh, Ri-Bhoi District. The programme featured lectures and practical demonstrations on topics such as Poultry-cum-fish integrated farming systems, Scientific fish pond and feeding management, Fish pond water quality management, Horticulture-cum-fish integrated farming systems, Fish disease management. Participants benefited from hands-on sessions, including demonstrations on feeding management and water quality testing conducted in farmers' fields. Additionally, farm visits to horticulture and fisheries facilities were organized to showcase integrated farming practices.
        The training concluded with an input distribution ceremony where Dr. S. K. Das, Principal Scientist and In-charge Fisheries, and Dr. S. Hazarika, Principal Scientist and Director In-Charge of the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, distributed essential farming inputs such as fish fingerlings, poultry chicks, fishing nets, and feeds to the participants. The programme was coordinated by a team of dedicated scientists, including Mr. Sadokpam Gojendro Singh and Mr. Tasso Tayung (Scientists in Fisheries), Dr. Rahul Katiyar (Scientist in Animal Production), and Dr. Talang (Scientist in Horticulture). Technical assistance was provided by Mr. Alakesh Das, Senior Technical Officer; Mr. Prasanta Mahanta, Technical Officer; Mr. Pynhun J. Ryntathiang, Senior Technician; Mr. Shaniah Skhem Sumer, project staff and other supporting section staff. This training programme served as an important step toward empowering tribal farmers with scientific knowledge and practical skills, paving the way for sustainable livelihood development in the region.
